THE THINGS I LEARNT AND THE OPPORTUNITIES I GOT BY WORKING AT PRASHANTI

I have been working at Prashanti for more than a year now and in this duration, I have learnt a lot by observation and also through my work and experiences. I have received the satisfaction of contributing to the important cause of cancer awareness, especially breast cancer awareness. In this past one year, I have grown as a human due to my work at Prashanti. I have learnt a lot about genetics, cancer science, diagnostic tools, treatment options and surgical procedures.

OBSERVED A SURGICAL PROCEDURE

I got an incredible opportunity to observe a Breast Cancer surgery under Dr. Koppiker. The precision with which the doctors worked and the calmness was really interesting to see. I was standing there next to the surgeon in scrubs, trying to understand everything that I was seeing and taking pictures as and when I was instructed. The most fascinating part of the entire experience was that 10 minutes into the surgery, the surgeons started playing old Bollywood songs. This taught me a very important lesson: If a person is skilled and has practiced her/his skill to attain perfection, nothing can act as a distraction while they are working. The experience not only taught me a lot, but it also changed my perspective about the environment in the operation theatre.
